God said be subject to rulers and obey your king. Well we have laws saying you pay for what you take out of the store. If you don't follow those laws you get arrested. How christian would you look behind bars?
God said what would it profit a man to gain the whole world and loose his own soul.

No
So you take something from another and give it back, but in the mean time the person needed what you took and had to buy another thing? So now it cost the person time and money. So how do you feel? (what if you just ask to borrow or loan?)
Honesty is always better.
(Romans 13:9-10) 9 For the [law code], “You must not commit adultery, You must not murder, You must not steal, You must not covet,” and whatever other commandment there is, is summed up in this word, namely, “You must love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does not work evil to one’s neighbor; therefore love is the law’s fulfillment.
(Ephesians 4:28) 28 Let the stealer steal no more, but rather let him do hard work, doing with his hands what is good work, that he may have something to distribute to someone in need.

If you take something without permission, that is stealing, even if you intend to return it later. If you do take something like that, by all means leave the note at the time you "borrow" it, giving your name, address and telephone number, and when you plan to return it. You still might get arrested, but you are being honest.

Stealing is a sin. It is not borrowing unless you ask the person first. Taking it without their knowledge is stealing.

God sees into your heart - is this how you want people to borrow your stuff? Or would you see it as stealing?
God forgives all your sins THAT YOU REPENT OF - simply, that means that you turn 180 degrees from. Jesus forgave the Samaritan woman at the well because she saw the evil of her ways - and He told her to "Go now and sin no more."

Yes: To Steal is to set aside our Neighbor"s Right.
Why because their is a Limited Supply:
To Swear is to set aside God"s Claim to Reverance.
The Curse ( These Two Sins cover both Tables of the Law:)
This will destroy a Man ,Should He persist in doing these Two. Zech. ch 5:1-4

I suspect you already know the answer in your heart, but here it is anyways. The sin doesn't begin with the act, it begins with the unhindered thought. Don't forget that after Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus, Judas gave the money back; however, that didn't clean his conscience at all. When Jesus spoke of lust he basically said that if you look at a woman with lust, you've already committed adultery with her in your heart. The good news is, if you believe Christ came to die for your sins, he's willing to wipe you clean if you'll confess that what you did was sin and make a well-intended resolution to repent.

When you borrow something you ask for permission. When you take something without permission from the owner you are stealing.
btw, not only is it a sin, but it is against the law.

stealing is taking something that has not been given. The act of taking is the stealing part, not the returning some time in the future part.
