41 people had reasons for crying. Were most of them rather unselfish, were some purely unselfish? Do sophisticated robots cry?

Are we more than science can explain?

Life is indeed a mystery, an oxymoron, and a challenge. It defies definition. I for one did not answer as my answer would be too long. I cry for so many reasons. Sometimes just the sight of a sunset or at dawn. Life is amazing no matter how you look at it.

Even scientist believe that there is more to life than what science can explain.
After Darwin came up with the theory of evolution, after so much research and study and sacrifice even he admitted to, and decided that there is more to life than the scientific explanation.

Science, and the power to think and come up with scientific explanations, are gifts from God. Every molecule is biblical, you just gotta know where to find it in the bible.

God created us with a body (physical), spirit (spiritual, breath of life), and soul (emotional). Each have it's functions.

Physical body, gives us the ability to move, taste, see, etc... the spiritual part is our need and curiosity to ask, the question you asked, the need to believe, the feeling you get when you feel complete, when you feel the holy spirit. The Soul is what governs our emotional side, loving, hating, angry, happy... etc.

In the end regardless of what anyone would make themselves believe or not believe, when the time comes, we all need to fill our spiritual thirst, because we have been created that way.

Regardless of the religion or lack therof, we all have a spiritual need, and it is untill we fill that space, that we feel filled and complete.

I speak from personal experience.

May God bless you and guide you through this search.

Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

1 Peter 1-8
8 You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. 9 The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.

No, there are explanations for our reactions. Our reactions can be reproduced by chemical means.

People can feel like they are in love or happy.... even sexually aroused.... all chemically. If these things can be reproduced scientifically how is it that we are more than what science can explain?

Granted, there are some things that science does not have the answers for, but what are you implying that means? that there is a greater being who created all of this for us? who gave us emotion and makes us cry? If you are implying that, it's silly...... "anything we don't understand or science can't explain.... a greater being created it!"

I do think our minds are beyond what science can explain (at least right now they are....never know in years to come.)

I don't know that this only applies to humans thought, because I have a tough time figuring out my dog too. If I cry, he acts completely different and gives me lots of kisses. Maybe it is ALL animals we have a bit of difficulty understanding.

*And you better believe my reason for crying was completely selfish. My missing paycheck is in that package....and I need groceries!

A reason doesn't need to be selfish to be explained scientifically.
And of course there's more to life than science can explain. That's why we still have scientists.

One does not follow from the other. I don't even see how you can make this assumption in all seriousness.

And if you programmed robots to cry, sure. Provided you added tear ducts and proper programming. Why is it so hard to accept we're biological machines?

You need to put your question in context? What people are you talking about? You understand that the rest of the world can not read your mind, right?

Don't forget about the sociopath who is really odd. Science does have explanations for emotions. It doesn't mean I have to agree with their explanation but they do have them.
