He doesn't seem to mean that scripture is to be taken literally, because he reinterprets very freely the Jewish scriptures that he's reading as scripture. Moreover, he argues that the Law of Moses, which is the cornerstone of Jewish scripture, has been set aside by the revelation of God's grace in Christ crucified. Paul claims inspiration from the risen Lord for his creative understanding of Jewish scripture, but he also argues his case using all the tools of rhetoric and reason at his disposal.
So if he was so liberal in his interpretation, why do christians take it so literally?

Dear Kallan, I am quite sure you already know the answer. But I just had to add my 2 cents worth. -- Most things in the Bible are case specific. We get into big trouble when we apply a particular verse to wide variegated circumstances and then call it God's word (for our lives and our situations.)

Paul's work is replete with answers to case specific, and probably problem specifics answers to questions from his friends and co-Christians. - We have no records of the questions or problems he was addressing. - In the past I defended some of Paul's answers, but now I no longer dabble in his letters. I try to stick to the actual words of Jesus' in the Bible. (Doing so has consequented me being a Christian without a religion.) - And, yes the Holy Spirit visits me quite well, without Paul's letters.

Paul answered the way he needed to reach the Jews for where they were. He modified His approach to accommodate the beliefs of the Jews and credited God's grace thru Christ for the ability to bring their OT scripture to the new days of grace that should now ( then) supersede the laws of God thru Moses. The Jews where so ingrained in their belief that to relax their rituals was thought to be a sin. The Jews tried to enforce all the rituals on the gentiles. Paul tried to explain that it was a burden that does not justify. The only way to justification or salvation is the belief ( faith) in the new covenant of Jesus dieing on the cross.

He means authored by God. He means all scriptures from Genesis, as we know it, eventually through Revelations was written for our benefit and he goes on to describe how. He understood as part of accurate knowledge, the Mosaic Law was to forshadow and be fulfilled by Jesus perfect human sacrifice for Adam's sin past down by his children.

He used both scriptural prophesy and counsel with reason and logic to make his points clear. God being a God of order works in a logical, reasonable manner. So this is fitting. Paul's words should be taken literally as they make for a life conforming to God's directives.

You're not for real are you? You seem to say things as if you know it, but do you?

Don't you know that the Law Covenant was PERFECT AND GOOD. However, the Israelites were told that if they could obey it perfectly, they would never die. But if anyone broke anyone of the commandments, then the sinner should die!

Do you not understand what this means? It meant that the Israelites from the very beginning new that this GOOD LAW that was perfect was the VERY REASON THEY DIED. Because it was perfect and it was by WORKS OF LAW they would gain life. NONE COULD SINCE THEY WERE IMPERFECT!

In this way the Law Covenant from the very beginning pointed as a tutor to the coming of Christ who being the mediator of a better covenant, the Law of Faith, gave all who have faith salvation. Yes, it is true they had to prove their faith by works, but these were proof of their faith not proof of their perfection. Thus it is their proved faith that saves them.

So, please go home to mama and study your 101 Bible once again.

When Paul says that all scripture is given by God--or inspired, I forget the exact wording--what he really means is, "Everything I say is right. I am going to include all my words in my definition of 'scripture' and then say that ALL scripture has been given by God so that you'll do what I say and think the way I think and give me lots of money to keep this church thing going. It ain't cheap doing God's work, you know."

But maybe I'm just being cynical.

Paul's letters being written long after Christ departures does not propose they weren't inspired by potential of God. apart from they did not make their way into bible with the aid of fact God "allowed" them to. Paul's letters discovered their way into the Bible with the aid of fact they seem to be a element of Gods plan. God does not enable Priest to rape little ones, priest make a option to rape little ones. and that they'll pay the fee for that decision. Why is that human beings such as you, people who the two do not have faith in God in any respect or hate God as they declare to not have faith in Him on an identical time continuously blame God for the movements of guy? same is going for Christian divorcees. human beings attempt to characteristic or eliminate from Gods be conscious, such as you have tried to do here yet in the top Gods be conscious will stand! If the catholic Bible became into altered to alter Gods be conscious, human beings did it, not God and He hasn't allowed it to alter a element, element's will end basically the way god stated they could no count how many human beings attempt to change or twist the comprehend God.

He meant the same thing that the televangelists mean today.

"Give me money!"

It's the evangelist mantra.

They say it out loud in their sleep.
