Meat that is properly wrapped can be frozen as long as one year safely. Properly wrapped means that is is in a freezer wrap or bag, preferably vacuum sealed, NOT the wrap it came in from the store. Also the condition of the meat when it is frozen plays a part. After a year, it becomes more the quality of the meat than the safety of it. It will start to taste odd or the texture will change. If you have something in there that you can't remember how long you've had it, or it has ice crystals in it, you really should throw it away.

Hi, I have a guide on the door of my freezer, it reads; fish should be frozen for 3 months only, chicken for 6 months only and red meat for 1 year. However I do have a friend who's been known to pull meat from her freezer thats been frozen for up to 2 years and eat it! She did'nt get sick.

Most meats will dry up after a few months, but still be edible.
Cooked meats should be used within a month or so. Pork, chicken, and lamb will be good up to three months, while beef will be good for six. It depends on how well you wrap it, though. I have frozen peppers whole, and bananas (good for banana bread) without wrapping them, but meats should be well sealed since freezing does suck moisture out of meats.
Where do you think the frost comes from?
If you want to be more precise, look for a site that has tables about frozen food storage.

My rule is as long as it is not freezer burned then I'll feed it to my family, that being said, some stuff does develop a freezer taste.

The fact about freezing. Solidifying water eliminates ANY bacterial growth; which is what causes food to spoil. No water, no bacteria. U can eat a thawed morsel thats been frozen for 10 years if u want. Theres no danger.
As far as freshness.... Seriously, we live in a society where food is in abundance and freshness is mandatory; to me anyway. Chunk it and go get more.

Guidelines range from 6 months to a year. Unless you unplug the freezer thinking that you're unplugging the dryer. Then it doesn't last! ;)

If it's fresh meat that you've wrapped yourself, I woud say not longer than 90 days. (freezer burn) If it's deep-frozen, ex. frozen turkeys , and some fish probably a year.
