My mini schnauzer has very bad allergies. Winds up she is allergic to grass and walking on it outside makes it bad. She even licked a hotspot as a young puppy.
The vet gave her chlorphenalamine 4mg (spelling is WAY off, I'm sure), but it is EXACTLY the same as a 4mg Chlortrimeton (name brand i think) allergy pill for humans. The generic brand in many pharmacies sells 100 tablets for just a few dollars. One tab a day should cut WAY down on your schnauzies itchin'.
The pill is yellow, round and 4mg (I'm sure of the dosage size). Given this info, any pharmacist worth his salt should recognize what I am talking about.

First taske him to the vets to determine what is causing the itch and then follow the vets reccomondation.
Yo can try adding a viatmin supplement to the food and add grease from cooking to teh food about a 1'2 tsp every other day.
You shouldn't bath more than every 2 weeks unless tehre is a diagnose problem and teh vet tell you to.
could be fleas, dry skin, allergy or even caused by an underlying problem.
teh vet may want to do a skin scrap this won't hurt but sometimes the only way to dia gnose the problem.
Shanging food like that isn't good for the system and can also cause the itching.
Stop doing what you've been doing and get a vet appointment and let teh preffessional do what is needed.
Good Luck

My Schnauzer had the same problem. It turns out he is allergic to fleas, so even 1 flea bite will make him itchy and red. Your vet can give you a prescription for a medicated shampoo and drops or pills to treat it and he/she can also recommend a flea prevention program (i.e. Frontline, Program, etc.) Also, there are shampoos and drops specifically for Hot Spots that really seemed to help our Schnauzer.
Schnauzers tend to have really sensitive skin so using/trying lots of products might make it worse (we tried lots of things before taking him to the vet). Also when you have him groomed be sure to tell the groomer he has sensitive skin...cutting his hair too close can really make it worse.

he sounds l;ike he has allergies and if he is shaking his head it could also be mites or infection in his ears. see if there is a brownish color to the wax in his ears and give them a good cleaning with warm water and vinegar mixed equally then let him shake his head and a lot of the gunk will fly out. benadryal is another thing that he can take and u can give him 1/2 to 1 pill in the am and pm and since he is small try 1/2 twice a day for a few but he really should see a vet to rule out infections and skin allergies. my husky gets welt, hot and itchy from the wet grass or weeds outside and whatever he breathe in on pollen filled days so i try to keep him in and dry off his skin where ever anything touches it. check ur pooch for welts and scabby spots and u will see what is making him itch but call ur vet to be sure. goos luck

Take your dog to a vet and have him exam ed and diagnosed. If it's an allergy the vet can prescribe meds to combat it. If it's mange he can also prescribe meds for that. But you need a diaganoses from a vet before you try to treat it yourself. If he has a lot of fleas buy some Avanatage or Frontline spot on and see if he stops.

Well there is something causing the itching. It could be dry skin, a rash, allergies, or even fleas. I would take your dog either to the vet to get checked out or to a dog grooomer. They can tell you if it is a rash or fleas.
