I remember since i was tiny picking the skin around my thumbs, and my fingers, mainly my thumbs. It looks disgusting. I cant help doing it, sometimes i dont even notice im doing it untill it hurts. I did it on my finger today and it really hurt. Why do i do this?

My son does this too. I recall doing it when I was a teen. I believe it's a nervous habit. Find something else to do with your hands. Try wearing a rubber band around your wrist. When you feel the urge to pick at your fingers, snap the rubber band as a reminder of how ugly it makes your fingers look.

I do something simmilar too and I've been doing it since I was 6. I can't stop and it looks bad. I always wondered why I do this, never found an answer :(

Don't worry its normal.you probably just think that's helping but It can get infected.
