dogs do loose there milk teeth this is perfectly normal. By 5 month old the adult teeth will be coming through or half way through. By 6-7 month it will have all adult teeth.
They will be much bigger in size to the milk teeth & not as sharp to the touch so you can recognize them if you open its mouth.
If your dog has missing teeth or no adult teeth or if you are not 100% sure of checking the dog over take to the vets you should not have to make an appointment if you just pop in someone on reception ( they will know what to look for ) will take a quick look, if they decided it was best for the vet to take a look then they might book you an appointment & will have to pay for the check up.

Yes, dogs ahve baby teeth that they lose, but they're finished teething by the time they're 5 months. If your sheltie doesn't have his canine yet, he's not going to, and no, you won't be able to show him with a missing canine.

If she doesn't have a canine tooth bye now she problalby won't they are usually in between 5-7 months.
To the best of my kowledge seh wouldn't be able to be shown without the missing tooth. I would ask the vet like people their are the exceptions to the rule.
Good luck.
