if you are referring to the way we type on the internet, well, that is how we do it here. There are many other sites that you can visit - most likely more intellectual - if you wish to join those forums, please..............go! When we sit in front of our computers it is for fun. We get CREATIVE with our spelling in a way to convey a bit of our personalities through this medium. Creativity in many forms is actually a form of intelligence. Being in a box, and not allowing one's self to truly enjoy living outside of the box, well, most of us don't understand that.

So you see, unless we are in the environment of having to correctly spell, and use proper punctuation (which I have not here) why should we in a more relaxed environment? We can relax - shall we show you how? As far as the insults, Americans get them all of the time from all over the world. If you think that your insult of our spelling would do any sort of damage, or truly cause the feeling of insult, you are mistaken. To be American is to be a bit more thick skinned.

Not only that, but let me invite you to ponder this. With communicating with my In-Laws, whose native language is Dutch, I know there are many mispellings in words as they spell the words phonetically. I never say a thing, because since they are typing emails in my language, I learn to read how they spell without correcting them. Just as you pointed ou that nobody said anything about your mispelling - quite possibly nobody cared, or from your question drew the conclusion that English is not your native language and let it slide as to not insult you. That my friend is called grace.

I am an American, and I have very good spelling...BUT, I am a high school teacher, and my students spelling is deplorable. There is a middle school in my school system that teaches students that they can make a 100% on their spelling tests as long as they spell the words the way that they sound! RIDICULOUS. I also blame instant messages, text messages, etc for the shorthand that has been adopted as proper english!

Sorry, but I can't help asking you why you did not spell misspell correctly? Are you one of those Americans with special dictionaries of misspellings?
Of course, I would like to see Americans spell correctly, but I think if you are going to be a critic you should at least spell correctly.

Ha Ha, it seems that way right? I guess some of us have be some addicted to spellchecker, and some of us choose to not use it. I Think most of them on here are typing errors. I can spell fine, but I type too fast , and well. By the way smarty pants, you misspelled misspell.

that's terrible! But I think the dictionary must be an international best seller at this stage because bad spelling is not confined to one area of the globe

Yeah its a FACT, Americans r very bad at spellings. Maybe the schools are responsible for it......... or the society in which they are brought up. Well..........its very hard to comment on this issue
