before you think that i am some criminal read the entire question.

i was out to dinner with some friends downtown when i saw two officers beating another man. they were choking him and generally roughing him up pretty bad. i took out a video camera and started rolling and i also called 911. the man that was being beaten was struggling a bit so i yelled for him to be calm and just do as they say. i also siad i was getting it all on tape so not to worry. as soon as i said that the officers rushed over and srayed me in the face with mace and than tasered me until i fell to the ground. than they took my camera and deleted the video. i was arresedted for obstruction of justice and non-violent resisting arrest.

well my trial was set for yesturday but the state dropped all charges. i have 3 witnesses and also the sergant of police that are willing to testify that i was only doing my civic duty and had no part in any wrong doing. they also can testify that i was attacked by the officers

this is not a question about whether or not i am lying. the question is how much i would sue for if my statments are correct. im not looking for comments saying that i am lying or you views of the law or what i should have been charged with.

btw: the other man that was arrested was being beaten by two young guys and the cops never persued those men. why? b/c he was black and the other two were white and it happened in a white part of town.

all of you who think its patriotic to support the degredation of civil rights should not consider yourselves citizens! your a joke just like your comments

An outrageous amount. The court will more likely give you less, not more, than you ask for.
I wish you good luck and appreciate your exposing that the police think laws don't apply to them.

Your story isn't believable.
a. The officers were justified in using force if the subject was struggling, and wouldn't delete a video that showed him actively resisting.
b. They wouldn't suddenly stop fighting with a subject because they were being videotaped.
c. The fact that charges were dropped means nothing. If there was no case against you, there never would have been charges or a trial set. Something fell apart at the last minute and you were let off

okay why did you not go to your local tv station and let them know about this ? I doubt that your story is real either or you would have been at the local tv station and then the major networks would have picked it up . I think your story is phony and if it is not why are you asking us how much you should sue for ? You and your lawyer would already know the amount . Sorry I dont believe you .

It seem like your civil rights was violated so u need to get a good lawyer and add up all your expensives and pain and suffering and sue for the maximum amount allowed by law.

You should also be compensated for punitive damages. Your attorney should be able to suggest a fair price.

I would suggest 10-20k is a good number, but don't expect all of it -- this is a roundabout figure and a good starting place to begin negotiations.

Wasn't this story a mini series on the WE channel?

Your story smells like big mounds of horse dung. I suggest that you sue the instructor of your creative writing class..........

You cant recoup your losses cause you were in the wrong. Interference with an arrest can and does lead to convictions.
You should have kept your mouth shut and your camera running. As soon as you talked to him -you were interfering.

Obstruction of justice!
Attempting to pervert the course of justice!
hindering police!
accessory to perversion of process!
several charges under the terrorist acts!

there could be heaps more charges .

I suggest that if this story is true ( which i doubt) that you shut your mouth and move on.
