After years of having them knock at the door and harrass us in the streets, how dare we present them with a bit of reason and logic in a forum that's meant to be open to all to express themselves.

Are they not trying to "bring the lord into our hearts"?

Could it be that they feel like we're winning a few people over to our side?

I personally believe it to be a good thing to have ones beliefs challenged and to have to defend those beliefs.

I do think it is sad that so many Christians are completely unprepared to give such a defense.

I think a few atheists on here have arguments worthy of being a challenge. Most of the time though its simply silliness, blasphemy without any point whatsoever, or mockery.

I don't have a problem with having my beliefs mocked (for I reserve the right to mock others as well), so long as we understand that such is generally not a challenge to beliefs.

Well i think it's a given when you have two types of people who's beliefs negate each other. What is ironic is that a lot of Christians drive some people to become atheist with there radical views.

I don't think most of them "do" irony. I don't seek any converts and mostly spend my time here fending off theistic ignorance about atheism and evolution. But I know of several agnostics who have come fully over into atheism and at least five Christians who have abandoned their dependence on myth since coming here. And hurrah for that, I'd say.

I don't see any irony if Christians get upset.

I'm sure that you've never taken a backwards step when people have approached you on matters of religion.

Atheists will generally assert their viewpoint if they feel it is appropriate. There hasn't been a sudden shift in the balance of power. That's a bit of an exaggeration don't you think?

Y!A is obviously the first time many of the Christians here have been exposed not only to atheists, but to a variety of other beliefs besides their own. It perpetuates the stereotype that Christians live sheltered lives.

People fear what they don't understand, and that explains the Christian reaction to many Q&A's here.

Christians who get angry at such a lame thing are only professing to be ones but their beliefs aren't matching what they claim. true Christians know what you guys are up to and have no reason to be angry, they'll only have simpathy for all of you and not many Christian visit the R&S and the truth is i don't fully know what it is.

Don't flatter yourself -- I've yet to hear a single truly logical argument in favor of atheism. Agnosticism, maybe, but atheism?-- not even close.

Christians who try to convert you are usually doing it because they sincerely think they're helping you. Are you doing the same when you try to convert them into not believing in God? Does it really do a person any good to think that their existence is meaningless, and that they will never be reunited with deceased loved ones? If you're somehow wrong (oh, I'm sure that's a rare occasion...) and God really does exist, then you've certainly done them a huge disservice if your specious arguments have somehow managed to "convert" them into your form of faith (i.e. faith in there being no God).

It is enormously ironic. But are atheists really trying to "convert" them, or merely mock them? I suppose some atheists are sincerely trying to "enlighten," but most of the people who call themselves atheists in this category generally seem to be more interested in demonstrating how cleverly they can mock people's religion, whether Christian or otherwise.

I think so, there's also irony that the christians complain about abuse when they are quite happy to dish it out

America's private citizens are all armed, for such a god blessed nation, you have to wonder what they are so afraid of. Don't they trust their god to look after them?
