Look, no matter what family circumstances you have, I am going to tell you that no, it's not OK.
It would make your life much more difficult.

I'm 16, and I know this is not what you want to hear, but let me explain.

The whole financial aid and FAFSA thing are so easy for you right now. If you go right now, you could end up paying nothing for college. If you don't go right after high school its almost impossible to NOT have to pay for everything.

You can, however, put off going to university.

Whatever your family circumstances are: you might have a kid now, or maybe a death in the family, or have been kicked out. I don't know. But my advice is to go to community college. It's so cheap, and with the FAFSA you probably will end up paying nothing and then getting a refund check on top of that - which is free income. Free income is good, and could help you in your circumstances.

So instead of putting off college, take community college classes! You can do them part time, and when you're ready you can transfer to a university or more esteemed college. You'll still be able to work, of course.

It is perfectly acceptable to wait a few years before going to college. I know a lot of people who do just that. It seems to me that the people who waited a couple of years before college actually were more focused on school when they did finally go. They seemed to know what they wanted to do more than some of us who went right from high school. As far as being able to make a living working without going to college. It is possible, it does depend a lot on where you are living and the types of jobs available to you. I know many people from high school who did not go to college and they have done just fine. Just remember to try and save up some money to pay for college while you're working. It'll help in the long run. Good Luck!

Eigh... I would do everything possible to not do this. Just go to college if you can. every year you wait is like another year lost. It's also hard to find a job you can live off of without a degree. You can do it, but it makes things harder, and may even make it harder for you to go to college the longer you wait. Do what you have to do though, family is important. Just don't wait too long to go back to school.

It's certainly possible, but it is hard. If you can afford it, however, I actually recommend taking the time off to work, it will give you some insight to the real world and perhaps make you appreciate school just a bit more.

the longer you put it off, the harder it will be to get back on the ball. I put it off and now at 36 just received my associates. Good Luck with it.

Just make sure you have a plan, and stick to it.
