Come to think of it, I haven't seen any French people lately!

Actually The French did themselves one better. Around 1912 the French solier wore a rather subdued blue-gray uniform. Then someone whispered in the President's ear that such magnificient soldiers should be seen. Thus two years later millions of French died in the murcky brown mud of Flanders wearing BRIGHT SCREAMING SKY BLUE uniforms. German sharpshooters could be nearly blind and still have a good chance of hitting a French soldier. They made excellent targets.
