I have a 2000 mercury mystique my husband was on his way to work today and it just died. He said the oil light went on when it did. This is the first time that it has ever did that it has never died before. We always get it checked out when we do the oil change at the ford delarship and they didnt notice any problems when they checked it a couple months ago. What could of caused this? We had a guy change the breaks on it just about a week ago could that of been the problem? Also it has plenty of gas in it so it didnt run out.

Yes the oil light did go on because the engine died. As for the rest i am not sure it is still along the side of the road until i can get it home. He said when he opened the hood it smelled like burned rubber or something like that also. And he tried to keep on starting it every so often and it would not do anything at all.

since your husband could sell burned rubber, your husband proablly didnt notice while ur car overheated.

The smell of rubber comes within the cylinders and is used to prevent the oil from escaping, with damaged rubbers, your car has a decent chance of running again but will start burning oil

The reason why ur car died in the first place, with a as well maintained as yours (i presume from what you have said) is proablly that the fan belt broke, the most simple and most comman cause

Dear,
First of all, I want to say that a car can not die completely due to any problem with brake or oil. So dont think about those. The oil indicating light may be lighted due to the low pressure of oil. Now if your oil pump is driven by engine (most of the case), you can understand that failure of engine will cause the failure of oil pump and subsequently the oil indicating light will burn. So you have to look for the cause of engine failure.
As you didnt provide enough information here, I am assuming that your car cant be started anymore. Its just not responding with your key. So if this is the case, then you can check the following .....;

1. Check your battery, It may be chargeless.
2. Check the power supply cable and connection from battery to ignition plug (Incase of patrol/gasoline engine), it may be disconnected or damaged or shortened anywhere.
3. Check the ignition plug, it may be jammed.
4. Check the fuel line fully. It may be leaked somewhere.
5. Check the fuel filters, it may be choked or blocked.
I hope these facts will help you to find and solve the problem.

Its a shame. as quickly as, some years back, i went camping out with my associates and relatives. i replaced right into a relatively heat day and we've been given as much as bypass the close by river to kick back off. We walked handed this relatively small automobile and there have been a minimum of three canines interior, no domicile windows cracked, no water, no longer something. there replaced into no person around/close to the motor vehicle nor did all and sundry declare it as quickly as we informed the managers. We contacted the police and the vendors arrived back (only in time for the police coming) they suggested they have been out procuring and purely been away some hours. They claimed the until now they left they gave the canines a large bowl of water and soaked them with the hose. We left as quickly because of the fact the police have been given there so I haven't any theory what got here approximately to the canines or the vendors. people could get some experience.

You are not giving enough clues as to what happened. The oil light could have come on BECAUSE the engine died or vice versa.

If you can think of more clues (symptoms) try re-asking the question.

Many possible causes and not enough information to even begin to speculate.

Could be as simple as a blown fuse... Could be all kinds of things.
