Happiness should motivate you to live, and can be empty or full depending on the level of happiness. Pain does exist but too much detrimentally means it may not 'will' you to exist. You do not need exccessive pain but pain will occur through motion. It does not mean there is equal amounts of happiness to pain or that there should be equal amounts, as good always tries to make you live with peace yet evil controls your will to live with fear and pain. They are choices and have their consequences. Happiness exists with a will to exist but pain only exist as a consequence of that will, not through choice, unlike happiness.

Have you just learned to read and write? Are you old enough to write this sort of stuff? Define happiness? Define Pain? These can be both wonderous and terrible things, but within a given context.

A marathon runner, with the end goal in sight, will be in a terrible degree of pain (running ain't just for wimps), but tell them to stop to end the pain and they'll most likely eat you alive. They see their goal and are in the process of moving heaven and earth to get there. It's what they have suffered for, through months of training.

Ask any mother, is the pain of childbirth is worth it and they'll say yes. The happiness and sense of acheivement shown in your average picture of a mother holding her new born child for the first time is of such intensity it could ignite stars!

Happiness is empty, pain really exists - but, only if you want them to be. Used appropriately as motivators, they can inspire people to move mountains.

GRRRRRRRR!!!!
(sorry, I'm having a tough day !~)

It is a stupid statement to say without pain you cant understand happiness. You are therefore saying pain is necessary to enjoy your life. That is not true, You are born with developed emotions, you recognize the difference between happiness and suffering when you are born. Maybe when we were all apes we had to have pain to understand happiness but we have evolved out of that stage.

I have heard that pleasure is the interval between two pains. Hence they are alternating in everybody's life. They are duel. Of course the world is illusion. But real existence, knowledge and bliss can be found only in the SELF which transcends the duality of pain and pleasure.

Happiness is nothing without pain. Without pain how can u understand what is happiness? Once u've experienced pain then you slowly become aware of the beauty that is right in front of u.

Happiness construed as being merely emotional statisfaction will prove ultimately empty. Suffering is an inevitable experience in a world that is finite and contingent.
