I have always been a sceptic were global warming in concerned. Yes the earth is warming up, however if you take a long term view it is obvious that the earth is now coming out of an extended cold period. The evidence that is dragged out about CO2 and it effects on global temperatures is questionable to say the least and are we so important in the big scheme of things to say that we are negatively effecting it by burning fossil fuels??
For a policy to be truly fair they should look at the potential outcome of not doing it, doing it, potential to succeed
I am now 100% sure that given the recent government input to the big debate that it is nothing more than a gravy train. Another method of taxing us to death. There is no direction to the policies and no final outcome for what they are doing.
The government says that they are trying to increase there green credentials by imposing green taxes but are they?
For a policy to be truly fair they should look to see what would happen if they did not do it, what they are looking to do, how it effects the population, what if any are the final goal of the policy. I think the government has seen that global warming is a hot popular subject and are milking it for all they can.
After all who in the right mind would go against the idea of saving the world from global warming or terrorism or paedophilia or crime or soccer hooligans?
Each one of there policies so far have been supposidly for good intentions but mark my words soon we wil live in a society were we are DNA sampled at birth, iris and finger print scanned, told what to eat and drink, monitored every day with CCTV cameras with face recoginiton software and speakers, pay per mile to get to and from work, speed managed in our cars, criminalised for not having our ID books with us, shot without reason by the police if we look like a suspect, not able to travel overseas if we are not either very rich or a polotition etc, etc, the list goes on and on.
Are we not truly entering a nightmare Gorge Orwell 1984 world.

I hate the government so much! Whether here in the Philippines or in America or in China or anywhere. All they do is collect taxes and spend it for themselves and whatever is left would be for us. I just hope a government official in a popular country would read this and realize what monsters they are. And about the global warming, people care more about money than our surroundings. The oil producing countries' leaders don't care about us, all they care about is money, money, money!!!!! They all suck.
I want to be a leader when I grow up so I could change things. But I'm afraid I might be murdered during election time because the careless candidates only want money. All of them are spoiled bitches!!! George Bush only spends America's money on weapons. And how much is tax in America? Is it 35%? or 40? Geez. If only the government was opposite, the Philippines wouldn't have to be a 3rd world country. Fhuck you George Bush! Fhuck you Saddam Hussein! **** You Gloria Macapagal Arroyo! **** you Joseph Estrada! **** you Ferdinand Marcos! **** you all government officials!!! Hail Mayor Jun Bernabe of Paranaque, Philippines!

Definitely.
The government is treating the causes of global warming like it would any other 'demerit' or undesirable economic product - ie using price / taxes / regulation to limit the consumption and production of the causes.
In many instances this can produce beneficial results - but on this occasion I do not necessarily agree with this.
Global warming can be due to plenty of non human / geological causes. While the nature and extent of human causes can be argued ad infinitum, the reality is that temperatures are rising and that profound consequences to the eco-system of the earth will result.
A sensible and long term government would ensure that long term measures were in place to ensure that our way of life was sustainable in the event of higher temperatures, raised sea levels etc. I would not object to the taxes being imposed to ensure this was achieved. This is not the case - measures of this sort are not being put in place and the tax money is not being used to fund them.
In Biblical times, Noah took practical action building an ark to combat anticipated rising water levels. He did not devise complicated taxes on over-polluting asses or organise trendy self-congratulatory study groups on 'unforeseen levels of divine wrath in the Hebrew diaspora'.

Our government in no way had a international warming compass. The signs and indicators that there replaced into some definate certainty to international warming have been there for years now.... maximum reasonable people have found out it relatively is actual for relatively it sluggish now. the priority is, maximum politicains are purely apprehensive approximately lining their very own wallet. Thats why we've the worst evironmental standards of the "civilized" countries. Shoot we even tend to have as much as ten situations greater waste in how products are packaged for retail revenues then different countries different countries have been environmentally minded for it sluggish now. different countries sell much less waste from industries.... we placed out greater waste in maximum factors than China, as quickly as we've a fragment of the variety of individuals. there is not any call for it! Like our asker suggested, the government is taxing us to dying, and the entire on an analogous time as, those comparable massive agencies that are destroying the ambience via no longer being relatively regulated, have become each and every of the tax cuts on an analogous time as the low and mid earnings people foot the tax expenses. Our device keeps getting further and extra corrupt!

The government preaches a good case but uses peoples beliefs and understanding just to make more money for themselves so the budget can cover their own pay rises the corruption within the governments is why most sensible people give up when it comes to voting.
We need a option on the voting paper to say none of the above and get them to start worring and start thinking about thier own future and back on course to do whats best for the people of this land. these MP's are only interested in their own pockets and will do anything to protect thier own job's like tampering with the freedom of information act to cover up thier own greed.

Forget the compass. Our government is like an over-excited male trying to use an in-car GPS Navigational System.
Like most: it fails.

As you see it, it looks like they know very well what they are doing. They are using the issue to get more money and to appear more progressive without doing anything. And sinse there is no "proof" that the problem will get them during their lifetime they can sleep well and not wory about it.
