I have heard mixed reports from doctors. Some say yes, others say its an old wives tale.

Other possibilities for inducing your labour are walking up and down stairs... (not recommended because its possible you could fall) and really warm baths. The Japanese take hot spring baths in the last trimester and their labours are sooo fast also... dont know if thats why... but it's definately worth trying.

Long walks and a nice hot bath... not many better past times you can really enjoy in your last trimester.

Although walking may or may not induce actual labor, it makes for an easier labor. I walked my daughter up and down streets for days when her due date was a couple of weeks away but she was having constant contractions which were painful and uncomfortable. She went into labor about a week after that and her labor (first child) was approx. 8 hours. Not bad for the first!!

All I know is that walking will help labor progress once your already in labor and walking before your in labor just to walk helps make labor "easier". My husband and I walked 2 miles everyday of my last trimester and I had her at 38 weeks. I was also cleaning 2 houses while in labor and was only at the hospital for 69 minutes before she was born. Gravity helps push the baby down more and their little heads pushing on your cervix helps to dilate you faster. We are not meant to labor in a bed or to even push a baby out while on our backs, your fighting gravity. If you can handle the pain then labor moving around, it'll go much quicker. Good luck!

36 weeks is a little bit to early to try inducing labour, please try and hold off a week at the very least.
Have patience your baby will be here when he/she is ready and at 36 weeks no amount of walking will help.

Walking will help the baby "drop" but it doesn't induce labor. And believe me, I tried!! I was two weeks overdue with my son and hiked up the biggest trail around this area to try and get him to come out, and even that didn't work!! So you can continue to walk without worrying, just don't push yourself too hard!

Walking might help it along, but probably not too much. The exercise might do it as that is putting more on stress on your body. Make sure to check with your doctor to make sure what ever you do is safe for your baby.

Why would you want to make your little baby hurry it's little self up and, show it's cute little pretty little face before it's ready to do so. Let it finish getting it's self ready for you, it will be along shortly.

BTW: Congratulations on your new baby to be, they are so wonderful. Your baby Will be in your arms before you know it.
I'm so happy for you!! They are so wonderful.

Only really if youu go power walking! (Just kidding....)
Seriously though, I've been told be my midwife that walking is fine in a normal, healthy pregnancy where they have been no complications, and has told me that walkign can actually make later labour easier as you've kept active.

not necessarily.....you are suppose to be doing that anyway throughout pregancy for a easy and healthier labor. i have been running, walking, biking the whole time and due any daynow....but i have walked every nite since becoming pregnant so i don't think that will work.
