I am so glad you asked. I taught my daughters that for the most part, a compromise means nobody is really happy. My philosophy? Pick your battles carefully. Give in on all things that will not affect you after today, and most things you only have to live with a week. Anything you will have to live with for months or years, dig in your heels and remind him that you always give in, so now it's his turn.

absolutely not over rated.probably under rated but the trick is that there should be some qualities in each individual not open to compromise

Absolutely not.
Relationships require effort and real work. They are give-take and require both parties to make sacrifices in order for their continued existence.
