Sounds like you need to re-install the audio card drivers which often come on a seperate drivers disk with the computer.

Did you do a 'New Installation' on your computer? Well, this might be the problem:

Reinstalling Windows XP can lose your harwares' drivers. So, my suggestion is that you need to install again the drivers. In your case, you need to install a driver that's COMPATIBLE with your sound card. I suggest that you look for it in the internet. I got mine from the internet.

well... that should solve the problem, good day! :)

Goto Device Manager (Start>Run>compmgmt.msc). Search for ur audio card there. If there's a main issue with it, u will see a yellow "!" subsequent to it. Just double-click on on it, press Reinstall Drivers, insert the driving force CD (typically ur motherboard cd), reboot, the whole lot will have to be quality now. Even if this did not paintings, get Service Pack two to your XP after which check out once more.

is not indicated, to install, the driver who appears in your pc hardware list, u must go to internet and search, by official web site, introducing the model, machine type, and wich driver u want to install, or go google, and search introducing the mode and driver name!
