What? More to life than being a nanny? Are you insane? Crack kills.

From what I have seen, the more important you feel the more conceited you become, the greater the Alter-Ego becomes and the greater the fall when it becomes obvious that it is all completely in your head. As people, whether the Prime Minister or a Bin man we are all as much of a person as the next, sadly its the thinking of importance beyond our normal human roles that makes the world a bad place. Rising to the level of your incompetence as happens in the business world is no great thing.
Imagine the world without those people like yourself that help others, it would be a tough place wouldn't it. To be happy in your personal life is treasure indeed, many do not have that. Most if pushed probably do not enjoy their jobs, so it seems, just as you. The obvious conclusion is to have your own children, but not all can do that, so not something I would say is the be and end all. Personally just helping those I can is enough for me, importance I happily send elsewhere.
Errm ... why has this question prompted the spark of religous debate ? We live to progress ourselves personally to aid others and to pass on our knowledge in any way we can. We should not be living to anyone's ideals but our own in an ethical manner. Religion is not the basis of everything.

Ah, hello religion.
Day after day people ponder this question, and the closest anyone seems to get to an explanation is religion, since it's the only possible answer to the question of "why we're here" that can answer in any other way than "who know's".
However, I don't believe you should live life for your death. There may well be an afterlife but frankly, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I feel I'm leading a pretty good life, and if God wants to cast me asunder for not going to church and wanting to be with my family instead, then frankly I don't want an invitation, since my family mean more to me than him.
(Don't take that personally big guy, but I never get a birthday card form you)!
Still, I'm sure people here will tell you to look inside yourself and all that bull, but fact of the matter, there is no answer, but I'm pretty sure family & friends is a large part of why we're here. What bigger role in life could you have than being a mentor for your kid? As far as that kid's concerned, you are god, you hold all the answers (and they'll damnwell ask all the questions too the little scamps).
Many people feel its their career, many people feel it's money. Have you asked your husband if you're important? I think the answer would be a resounding yes.
Still, why not use this as an oppurtunity to take stock of life and come up with a game plan. I've always found that for me, the question isn't "why am I here?" it's "what can I do next?". People settle into normal life and forget theres a million things out there to see and do. Lets face it, statistically, we've got around 70 years on this earth, I've got 43 left to live it up. And hey, if god wants to get picky, I went to Rome last weekend instead of the church to see his work and ask the Pope about his publicity stunt for madelaine.
I suppose in a roundabout way, fulfilment is the closest thing I can say as the reason I think we're here. And how you get your fulfilment is up to you. Personally, religion can't offer me half as much as my friends and family can.

Yes.. I like what I do but many times, I find myself asking the same question.
However, I know what it is I want to achieve with my life and I am taking steps to fulfill my dreams.
Take a good look around you and be open to options that come your way.

but you can view what your doing as important. your helping to raise the next generation! the children you look after probably adore you. but if it isnt enough for you then maybe you should think about a career change? what is it you would really really like to do?

You could have kids of your own. They will make you feel as though you're the most important person in the world!

you may have a God shaped hole in your heart and it needs to be filled only by Him. He could be tugging on it to you to just accept Him. He is actually a close friend of mine, not just a father. you don't have to accept Him but you can if you want. if you do want could help you. its just a simple prayer. you could even say it in your own words if you are not ready now and cant think of this prayer later.
Dear God,I believe you love me and that Jesus Christ came as Your gift, dying on the cross and rising for me. I confess my faults and failures; I ask You to forgive my sins. I now ask Jesus to come into my life as my Lord and Savior. I accept His promise of eternal life. Help me live for Christ alone from this day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
