Depends on the type.

Any person who has sex with a child is a pedophile, but there are many definitions.

Those that are referred to by A. Nicholas Groth as "Fixated, or others have different names for them but they are talking about the same type of individuals, are the ones not really treatable.

Fixated pedophiles primary sexual interest is children, not homosexual or heterosexual. To "cure" them would be the same as try to send you to counseling to change your sexual orientation. Isn't going to happen except with perhaps regressive therapy, but there are few who can do it, it is too expensive and it takes to long.

There are other type's of "pedophiles" whose PRIMARY sexual orientation is not children. Many are called Regressive! There is some hope for them.

And for your own information, fixated pedophiles can have up to 100 or more victims before they are caught the first time. And I have never talked to one who said they would not re-offend. If honest, and some are, they will tell you up front that they are going to!

Pedophiles are seldom rapist in the classic sense. That is why it is so hard to find evidence as they don't start with penile penetration, and it is progressive. In addition, children are dealing with a court system that is geared for adults. Most people have a hard time testifying. Can you imagine what it would be like for an 8 year-old! Pedophiles count on that and that is why many are not brought to trial!

There are people who have molested once and became so sickened and repulsed by what they did, that they will never do it again. That does not mean that they shouldn't pay for their crime. They have caused some child a lifetime of grief.

Those who repeat the offense usually will continue to molest. They may or may not be treated and not molest again, but I do not think that they should ever be trusted around children again. The temptation may overcome them.

If they are ever to be "rehabilitated" and released back into society, they should be kept far away from children. You should not let a recovering alcoholic work in a bar. You should not let a recovering drug addict be exposed to drugs. In the same way you should not let a convicted child molester around the object of his obsession.

A true pedophile, one who takes his primary sexual enjoyment from young children, cannot be rehabilitated. There are others who are convicted of sex crimes against children who actually prefer adults and I think those can be rehabilitated. Their crimes are still horrible and unforgivable. However, I do see a difference between an 18 year old who get stimulated when a 12 year old flirts with him and a man who surfs the internet looking for preschoolers

I don't care whether or not they can be rehabilitated.
I was molested as a child and do I want to put my child through the same experience? NEVER.
All the psychologists in the world can tell me he/she is rehabilitated? But would I ever leave my son in a room with that person? No way.

I don't believe so. Having said that, anything is possible if the person is motivated and convicted. I just would not want to take any chances with the situation.

Let's put it this way......if there was a dog going around the neighborhood biting our kids what would we do? Poor ole misunderstood dog, let's put him in a cage and pet him awhile. Or worry that he was whooped too much as a pup and din;t get treats like all the other little pups? No...you put the sick animal down, out of his misery. And our kids are safer than they were. No ifs , ands or buts about it. A sick animal that hurts and kills others has no place among society.....period. Tough stand I know but damn people look around you. Do you let your little ones walk around in a mall alone.....EXACTLY.

No, in fact..i am in favor of the death penalty in severe cases like the feds are trying to push a law for. Pedofiles are sick and cannot be rehabbed. This has been proven factually. Anyone who rapes or touches kids does not deserve to live in our society.

Absolutely. In Australia we have a three step process.

1.Castrate the son of a *****.
2. Kill him.
3. Send him for counselling.

We have never had a repeat offender.

Think I'm harsh don't you. Wait until you have kids and grand kids. Then come see me.

Nope. Baby rapers can't be rehabilitated. Castration and an old school lobotomy is the answer to that particular question.

F*ck that! I don't care if they can be "rehabilitated or not.I think they should be tortured in every imaginable way possible before having their throat slashed & dying a slow death as they think about what they've done!
