Truth is I am almost ready to downgrade to Windows 2000 only to clean my hard drive, is there another way?

yes download and install Linux operating system for free, along with all the software you will ever need for free

You can use just about any OS boot disk to erase your harddrive partition and reformat and install a fresh OS.
