I was good friends with a marothon runner. I happened to complain about my shin hurting. He told me when you run, you must have really good tennis shoes and for runners they need to bereplaced often to avvoid the shin splints. I went to a specialty store called "the Running Lab." They did so many tests to fit my feet properly I was just amazed.. I ended up buying on their recommendtion an awesome pair of jogging shoes. I've never suffered from them again. There are alot of great shoes out there, but if they are not quite right for your foot and the way you step, it will cause problems. If you can find a specialty place in your area for joggers, hopefully you can find the same relief. Best of luck!

Stop Shin Splints Forever?

Ice is meant to help, though in a brief period when I got shin splints from over training I didn't really think it had an effect. I didn't want to stop running so I didn't, I think most places don't recommend that you do either unless it is severe.

Naturally keep well hydrated.

Walking backwards is meant ti relieve the irritation created by running to the shins, how true that is, no idea.

I found mine went after a week of 'taking it easy'.

Get you an aqua jogger and tread in the water. Swimming and jogging in the pool really helps. Stay off hard surfaces for a while and if you must, just run on the grass. Massage the area gently and do light stretches.

When I had shin splints I was told to alternate ice and heat, massage and stretch my legs. Let them rest a few days. Use Advil or alleve and drink plenty of fluids. It helped.

You probably know more than we do, but I have found in the past lots of stretching and starting off slow really helped. Best of luck to you.
