Really ugly guys you meet on blind dates. Seriously, maybe they are beetles who inhabit date palm trees.

used to occasionally see them in coachella valley. the largest beetles i've ever seen. sort of a light reddish brown color and not something you see every day. i'd say they're about 3" give or take half an inch.
