High school classes to take should include government, geography, history, English, and any journalism and writing classes offered.
I recommend getting a job with a local newspaper if you can, or at least work with your school paper.
There are many fine journalism schools. Check your state's university catalogs and talk with your counselor. Look for scholarships.
There is no shortcut to becoming a good journalist. The best way to learn it is to do it. This is also the key to finding the best jobs in the industry.
You need all the writing practice you can get. Do crossword puzzles, read newspapers from front page to back page, and watch television news channels.
Get some practice interviewing people and writing stories based on those interviews. Good interviewing skills are a MUST.

Good classes are any communication classes that are offered, writing classes, english classes, and if your school has a newspaper, yearbook, tv show, radio, etc, those are all good for journalism. As far as colleges, Columbia has a great journalism school. Also, Kansas Unversity, DePauw University.

Take as many advanced English classes. (If your school offers Honors or A.P.) and see if you can take English and communication classes at your local community college. A friend of mine was a communications major at UCSB and then pursued her Masters at Columbia. She loved Columbia because they taught her how to write WELL. My personal recommendation is to learn how to spell more beyond a standard spell-checker. Be your own editor, think like an editor and get lots of peer feedback. That will soon be your audience and/or bosses. Good luck to you!!!
