What is the significance of black Sesame?

Well, I'm just guessing that it's black, and that's the modern color of mourning.

Lots of black food items in the gifts for guests -- shoyu, nori.

The old color was white, of course, and it used to be if you went to a funeral, you always got a packet of sugar -- little straws for your coffee, or just a bag of it, wrapped up nicely.
