The fact that the US military is bogged down in Iraq and (to a far lesser extent, Afghanistan) is true, but the fact is the US Military remains the best trained, most advanced, most lethal on earth. This is not just my opinion. Every year "Janes Intelligence", a highly respected British security publication, does a review on "world armies". The latest one in January 2007, said the following:
"Despite major setbacks in Iraq and to a lesser extent Afghanistan, The American military remains the best trained, most technologically advanced, and most effective overall military machine in the world".
Iran is ranked in the same publication as:
"The third biggest military in the Middle East, and the fourth most lethal". The publication puts it behind Israel, and Egypt in size, and Israel, Egypt and Jordan in "effectiveness".
Given these facts, should America launch a first strike against Iran's nuclear facilities.

Other countries want nukes to protect themselves from the US. They know the US only picks on countries that have to resort to terrorist tactics to fight back. Bush is an evil war monger who was yellow bellied when it was his turn to go to war in Vietnam.

American army is trained ,lethal and advanced.
BUT that's not enough, more than 10 years ago the USA claimed that Iraq got a nuclear weapon, and now without any nuclear, they are are stuck in Iraq, cannot win and cannot run, and every week a ship returns to the US with alot of corpses on it.
Technically, American can win any war on this earth,
but actually, Iran is is stronger than Iraq ( which America is stuck in since 5 years)
so what's the chance to win ?

Political biasness aside (which includes no hits on Bush nor Pelosi), I believe if Iran pushes through with operations on nuclear armament and a preemptive strike is necessary, airstrikes against the nuclear facilities along with other Iranian military strong points would be very effective. Though the issue in question isn't America's might, it is how could we stop an Iranian attack - against Iraq. All the Iranian military has to do for success is to invade Iraq. While we would send massive amounts of troops and machinery, roughly 1/3 of Iraq's population would side witrh the Iranian invaders against the American intruders... It would become very bloody. Overall I think we would win, but it might be like a Korea ... You won, but at what cost?

It can defeat Iran in the same way it defeated Iraq. It can destroy the military machine and the infrastructure and create chaos and then it will not be able to control this chaos. Since resourses would have to spread in three countries (Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran) the ocupation will become even less effective. More civil war, more fanatism, more islamic fundamentalists.
It can win the battle but it will not help in winning the war, in fact it will make sure the war lasts longer.

Sure we can. But it would be tough and bloody, and we may have to use extraordinary means to do it. If it were done with troops on the ground it would end up being 100 times worse than Iraq. We would have to do round the clock air strikes for about 6 weeks before anything else.

Numbers doesn't matter. True Iran has 3 to 4 million members in it's revolutionary guard. Well, Germany was outnumbered military during world War 2, the still managed to conquer france and were on the verge of conquering Britain. The U.S military can crush that of Iran and China in 3 days. YOu betcha!!

I wouldn't say a clearcut victory could be guaranteed. Lots of big, powerful nations have managed to lose wars against apparently weaker foes before this, and/or spend themselves into bankruptcy. A lot depends on how the rest of the world decides to react.
Bush's record in Iraq certainly inspires no confidence.

confident. I constantly hear people at school communicate approximately how "far in the back of" usa is with the worldwide. in certainty we are nonetheless the worldwide's basically super skill and that i'm pleased with that. via that delight, if we ever entered a conflict with Iran or China, i could right this moment meet as much as the ROTC application. (that's pondering, of course, that I even have already gotten my college degree). i'm pleased with this usa, in spite of if no longer the chief, and that i will willingly supply up my existence so destiny generations can look upon me and my movements with prefer.

Why is everything kill kill kill with you kids? What gives us the right to launch a pre-emptive war on any country? Is it really just your GOD against their GOD ? History shows wars over GOD will end in a bloodbath for both sides ! We all learned in school the horror of senseless war ! A more 'lethal' military? Is that really a reason to go to war? Is it cuz we can kill better and more of'm? That is the strategy of a madman !
