I'm not sure of the exact percentage, but I believe that we operate our minds at about 10% EFFICIENCY. Meaning that if we literally cut out 1/10 of our brain we'd then be operating at about 9% efficiency, and so on. I read recently that Einstein was fairly convinced of this, and he believed that if we used the entire potential of our brains, then the energy would be so great that we wouldn't need bodies. This is what he believed that the afterlife would be.

This is completely false. Remove or injure even the smallest part of the brain and you will most definitely never be the same again.

Even from an evolutionary standpoint the human brain is very costly to maintain. This is good evidence to suggest the we need and "use" ALL of our brain.

No that is a myth! in our brains we have primary cortex's for our senses that are used for processing a sensory signal related to the environment. and then association cortex that is "associated" with the primary cortex which futher proceses the signal, helps you coordinate it with what's in your memory, further comphrehension and more "deeper" thought. so we are not using only 10% because of all the associated processing that goes on to understand and respond to stimuli.

what they mean when they say this is that we only use our grey matter for processing information. What that means is that we can only use the surface area to process information. The rest we use for storing info and transporting info

Not true. Brain scans show that we use most of our brain all the time even when we are sleeping.
