I accidentally walked across an international border once without my passport between Luxemburg-Germany (when they still had borders). The border was just formed by a small river -- there was a small walking bridge ... I didn't notice the proper roadbridge further up the river, with a customs post for each country on either side.
For travelling there are still a few countries whose borders you have to walk across if you are using public transport rather than your own car -- such as between Montenegro (Yugoslavia) and Albania. You catch a bus to one end, walk up to the Yugoslav border post, show your passport, then walk down the road another 100 metres -- the buffer zone --, before reaching the Albanian border post where their guards there also stamp your passport -- from there you can get a taxi to the nearest town.
The walking part does not take long, but the passport checking can take some time!!

It depends on where you start and stop. The actual act only takes a second. The San Diego / Tijuana border takes about 15 minutes... walking across the bridge and all.

When we visited Niagara Falls, we walked across the bridge from the US side to the Canadian side. Took about 8-10 minutes. The bridge is about 500 yards long.

Depends where you are?
I mean you could literally be on one side of the border and then walk on to the other side in less than five minutes you know?
if you are talking about like a whole country...
...pppftttt.. a month?

That depends on how far you live from the edge now doesn't it? And what country you're trying to go to. If you're trying to walk to a country that's across an ocean...you're going to have to wait until the land masses shift and they're touching again.

From a North American perspective that is a good question for going to Mexico or Canada. However if you want to go to China or England, the question is.... how long can you hold your breath underwater.

just go to your local Home Depot and climb down the parking lot drain, you will find you are in a tunnel. just walk in the opposite direction of all the mexicans and you will end up in mexico. all Home Depots are connected to an underground tunnel network from mexico, thats why there are always mexicans standing around in the parking lots of every home depot you visit in the united states

If you stand on the Canadian side of the border then put your foot down on the other side in the U.S.side then it only takes a second of your time.

Where will you be starting? Where are you thinking about going? This question can't be answered without some idea of where in Europe you plan to be.
