Besides the main requirements, character and personality plays a large part in their selection of students. As a result, your college essay is going to play a huge role in their college application. Many administrators use the essays to look for those who stand out among those who excel in the academia. While grades and test scores are extremely important, it isn't everything. I know some people who had outstanding grades, but they were not admitted to Ivy League schools because they neglected their college essays, assuming that they were guaranteed admissions into these schools. So when writing your college essay, try to express yourself and also give a glimpse of the type of person that you are to the college administrators. Be original and creative and you will definitely stand out in the gigantic pool of applicants.

Learn to be realistic and understand that the Ivies are admitting in record low numbers. A state school is just as good and it does not matter where your diploma came from contrary to popular belief.

Ivies are highly overrated and highly overpriced.

Have family members that went there. Cure cancer, be extremely unique (IE: You can be a genius, or you can create your own language, have a talent no one has and is deemed significant enough that it will bring fame to the school).
