my grandmother is in the hospital for one and a half weeks, and it takes her decrease in heath for the doctors to wonder if something is wrong with her. If they had looked before she has gootten this bad, we could have saved her? She is now having trouble breathing, because of a blood clot next to her heart, and the doctors won't give the family a straight answer about her condition. They want us to prolong her status on life-support, but She told everyone if she could make if on her on. She didn't want any help. So we are tring to abide her wishes. back to my question. she was put in the hospital because something wasn't right. so the doctors should have been on top of her, right? So if they hadn't had there fingers up their noses they could have prevented this, her death. Beacuse they can't take her off the oxygen beacuse she loses all her breath. We pay doctors to know what we don't. but they can't even save us anymore than a common wives tales. So why???? do we give them $$?

My grandma passed away 6 months after she slipped on her kitchen floor and broke her arm!
She was in the hospital for a couple of nights bcz of the broken arm but it was after that trip to the hospital that she started getting sicker and sicker everyday.
They did everything they could... my father went around... got the best Drs but I guess it was her time. I personally don't blame anyone but I guess it could have been prevented and that she didn't have to suffer the last 6 months of her life spending it all in hospitals.
After she passed away... they found out that she died of an infection... something that could have been prevented.

When a patient enters hospital with an unknown complaint they need to be observed for a period of time. This also allows time for some basic tests to run to have a look at the various indicators eg kidney function, sugars, cholesterol, heart function etc. It is not normal to do ultra sound or mri unless specifically indicated. They do not have x-ray vision. Although you know what your grandmother is like normally hospital staff have never met her before. Keep this in perspective the hospital didn't give her the clot on the heart. Clots can also move so it may have moved there from a different location. Very difficult to pick up. They do their best.

They reason they do not give you a straight answer is because they could believe to have found something as bad as cancer when it is the common cold or vice versa, symptoms can vary drastically within a few minutes and this is why doctors do not know what happened until it is too late. with the one life they lose compared to the hundreds of thousands saved it is worth the $$, of course I am not saying that the lives lost are any less important than the ones saved and I do feel sorry for you.

You are so right about everything you are feeling. My father went to the doctors for two years because he didn't feel well. He was tired and weak. He then developed a cough. After two years they told him he was a hyprochondriac, so he got ticked and quit going. It turns out he had kidney cancer and by the time they found it, it spread to his lungs and his liver.

So why do we go to the doctor. Because sometimes they get it right and they save our lives. With all the technology that exists out there, they are still feeling around in the dark. They often don't know what to tell you. Sometimes they don't do enough to find out what's wrong because they know the insurance won't pay for it. Sometimes they just miss things. Sometimes they have too many patients to really spend enough time on someone to figure out what ails them.

But sometimes they do get it right and they save someone.

If you believe in God and she had faith as well, then at least be relieved to know she's not gone forever. You will meet again. That's the only thing that kept me sane when my dad died. He fought for two years before he died. So he was miserable for four to five years before he died. He's not miserable anymore. I"m sure he's feeling great. I miss him.

Say your goodbyes. Tell her how much you love her. Tell her that you will meet her on the other side. Hug her if possible for as long as you can. Stay with her while you can.
