albert einstein got the nobel prize in physics for discovering the law of the photoelectric effect. we use this today for many applications including solar panels.
einstein also invented 2 new branches of physics (quantum and relativity) in 1905, the "miracle year" for physics. at the time however, it was customary that any person, no matter how many revolutionary new theories they prove, only got ONE nobel prize.
we'll likely have to wait a few hundred generations before we get another as great as einstein.

Herbert Charles Brown earned a Noble prize in Chemistry in the Fall of 1979 for his work with Boron Hydrides. He was a Purdue U professor and I was a Freshman. It was a big deal and very exciting for the campus.
