My friends cat is pregnant and is due to have her kittens probably very soon. How long are cat's generally pregnant before they give birth and how many kittens in general do they have for each litter. Also is there anything she needs to do and how can she tell when the cat is ready to give birth. Sorry I only have male animals and can't help her.

The duration of pregnancy is from 64-69 days.they can have kittens from 1 to upto 4 normally.I think so cats are naturally and instinctively very good at it, so one don't need to worry about them like humans in terms of pregnancy.

A cats gestation period last up to 71 days but usually they will give birth at around two months, I have never seen a litter with more than 7 kittens but usually its about 5 kittens. Cats are very secretive about giving birth so they will usually go out of there way to hide the litter. When my cat was pregnant I kept her inside the house near the ending of her pregnancy so she wouldn't have them outside, I set up a dark private area, and showed it to her a couple of times, and to my amazement, that's where she had them. Most of all just tell your friend to relax, even if its her first litter, she already knows what to do..... oooh almost forgot, tell her not to touch them until they get a little older, the mother hates it no matter how close you are to her, plus she might ignore the babies after alot of handling. hope this helps!

I know this is posted in the wrong area but I can help you out here since my cat just had kittens about 2 months ago :o)
A normal cat's gestation is about 63 days [2 months], their first litter is usually made up of 3-5 kittens.
All cats are different when it comes to laboring their kittens - my cat was sweet & cuddly at first & then started hissing until I left the room. Usually, cats will run somewhere & hid to have their kittens, without the owner knowing. Tell your friend to set up a space in a closet/bathroom [somewhere quiet & warm], with blankets for the momma to hae her babies on.
Also, make sure that no one touches the kittens after they are firstborn or within the first week, as the mother might reject them & they could die.
If you have any more questions you can email me [it's on my profile] & good luck! ♥

This forum is for pregnant woman related questions.

But to answer your question a cat is pregnant 3 months and can have 2-8 kittens depending on the cats size. Your friend should get a box and line it with soft towels and get the cat to start laying in the box. The cat will let her know when shes ready she will lay in soft areas and cry alot. My cat is really close to me and when she was giving brith crawled on my lap. She'll go wherever she is most comfortable.

1] cats are pregnant approximately eight weeks.
2] they can have 2-5 in first litter
3] you could arrange a nice box of clean rags for her to give birth in, but usually they pick the spot.
4] they know what to do, and usually don't need help. You can make sure she is in a safe place, provide water near her nest, and murmur words of encouragement, if you want.
5] don't touch kittens after they are born, until their eyes are open. Then you can move them to a calm spot [ like a closet or quiet bedroom. ]
6] provide food, water, and a litter box for mama.

This should be in the Pets section, but I'll answer anyway. They're typically pregnant for nine weeks before giving birth, and have litters of about 4-7 typically, though more is possible.

the cat will be just fine taking of herself and is most likely to hide from you while she gives birth - matter of fact it could be a few days before you even find the kittens!

I believe cats have a gestational period of 8 weeks but I could be wrong... and on a 1st litter she'll have 2-4.

PS DON"T touch the kittens for a few days, let mama keep care of them - not often but occasionally a mama animal will abandon her babies because of this...????

When her cat is ready she will go in a 'hiding' space like a closet or enclosed space and stay there. She will usually have some sort of blanketing or bedding. And it usually is around 5 in a litter but I can't gaurantee that one. Cats know what to do, so don't worry they will be fine.
