Cold fried chicken & pasta salad (without mayo - I use italian dressing); cheese and fruit (wine goes without saying); frozen water bottles - these will keep the food cold and then when the ice melts you have water. Frozen juice boxes also work well.

Sandwiches, celery sticks, carrots, juice pouches/water bottles keep nicely for picnics. in case you needed extra warm or filling foodstuff, i could get some poultry wings, fries, pizza, or some thing uncomplicated like that.

Ice cold watermelon in a cooler that you slice at the picnic.
Cold fried chicken, traditional American potato salad, vegetable tray w/dip, iced tea w/lemon and our favorite brand of chips is what we used to take on picnics.
Don't forget to leave a trail of chip crumbs for the ants. That's what my husband used to do to watch them carry the chips away.
