I would look it up on Amazon and see what the summary there is and what the reviews are.

http://www.amazon.com/Peoples-History-United-States-Present/dp/0060838655/ref=sr_1_1/105-4169357-1187631?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1180794064&sr=8-1

I have read it and used selections for my class. It is well-written, but very biased, as there is almost no balance or concession to opposing viewpoints, and the US is shown to be a not very noble country in its deeds, mindset or government. Zinn (despite what a previous poster intimated, he is alive and well and living in Lexington, MA) is a socialist/left-leaning individual who posits that America has only very slowly and grudgingly given over rights to women, minorities and the poor. Historical periods of conservatism (political and economic) are seen as vast wastelands where the rich lord it up over the poor; periods of progressivism are seen as grudging concessions to the poor and minorities in order to prevent them from rising up and overthrowing the established order. I do like to assign it to the classes I teach to give them another alternate viewpoint and to show them the variety of interpretations of history there are out there.

It is worthy of reading, but is much better for challenging thinking than anything else.

Don't know about summaries, but it will certainly open your eyes to a lot of things and is well worth reading. It is a great book and he was a great man.

There is a very brief summary at this URL:

It isn't much. I'm afraid you need to read the text.
