do neon tetra's need decoration?

i am getting 5 tetra's should i have any decorations like plants or gravle or just plain tank? there all going to be male!

its hard for me to clean it every week

It definitely needs a tank. It needs gravel. If you want to add decorations and plants, you could. NTs need some places to hide whenever they feel threatened, so add some hiding places.

The tetras would probably like some gravel to help harbor the nitriyfing bacteria that you will cultivate before you add the fish.Also some plants or plant like material would add to the security they might feel. By the way, you must have a great pet store that can select male neons five out of five trys.

Neons die easily. As stated petcos fish arent good. Most local fish stores quarantine there fish an you rarely see dead ones in the tank. At petco they don't quarantine there fish and they have more stress from the shipping process. The cycle stated above is very important. I didn't have this problem when setting up my tank because I just took a filter bag from a cycled tank and let it run in the water for a while. Good luck

Tetra's dont need places to hide, its all up to you, personally I like decor for colorful fish like that.

well get 6 tetras, cuz they like groups/schools of 6 or more.

gravel is a good idea because it catches excess waste and is a good place for the beneficial bacteria to grow. plants are good, gives them a place to hide and rest and "play" in. fish do get bored. however, neither are "needed" just good things to have.
