Just bring the usuals like diapers, wipes, bottles... and also take a playpen and a walker, don't expect baby to stay clean and have fun!
its really not that hard... we go camping all the time (currently we have older kids 4, and 3) but we are expecting another...we often go camping with another couple who currently have a 5 yr old and an 8 month old, matter of fact we spent Memorial Day Weekend with them camping!!
Craigs first camping trip was last October and he was 2 months old, and he's not the only one - just the current youngest out on his first mountain trip.....

Thanks for asking. We're planning to take a camping trip when our daughter turns 6 mo. I got my inspiration from a couple I met while I was camping last year while I was pregnant. They had their 6 mo old twins with them! The only question I had is where should she sleep. We did a trial run in a friends backyard last week (5 mo). (We still had to pack for the trip, but could go inside or to a store if things didn't work out) She ended up sleeping in the play pen indoors since the play pen didn't fit in our tent like we thought it would. We didn't want to co sleep because the air mattress was way too soft -she could suffocate if she rolls over on it- and my husband drank around the campfire - he could roll over her in his sleep and not know it if under the influence of alcohol. We're taking it slow to learn how this works. The next time we go camping will be when she's 6 mo and it will still be really, really close to home, but at an actual campground. Thanks again.

WOW! I cannot believe the people who would not bring a six month old camping! My baby is four months old and we went camping last weekend! I did not find it hard at all and we were OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!. We brought plenty of clothing for ALL temps..We are in maine so it can be warm in the day and cold at night! Bug spray but, we only put it on his clothing and it worked great. Sunscreen and first aid stuff just in case. we also brought a portable swing. Be prepared to have five times the stuff for him as you do for yourself! He LOVED it, we loved it and th whole family had a great time! We also found his snuggly helpful! Also if ticks are a problem there MAKE SURE TO CHECK HIM OFTEN! And last but not least HAVE FUN!

If your going to take your baby camping. A baby goes through about 6-8 wet diapers a day so you'll need to increase it to 10-12 times so lots of diapers, extra wipes which are also good for other things to wipe baby down. Clothes warm and cool clothes,Food, formulas that you can just mix with water or formula that is already mixed. I would buy mosquito spray your baby is old enough to have now. Sunblock.

I think it is a brave woman who even entertains the thought of taking a 6 month old camping! I would bring a play pen, LOTS of clothing, LOTS of different blankets (heavy and light), LOTS of bug protection, LOTS of toys........
you know, the more I think to tell you to bring, I think it would be a better idea to stay near a wal-mart in a hotel...or just leave the baby with grandma, I don't think it would be really fun for the baby...much less you. If it were a cabin situation or something more civilized, i would think differently. There are just too many things to bring for a small baby! You would have more fun with out the baby and so would the little one.

its will be interesting. if you have help, that will be good. like family to trade off with. a play pen is essential. huge box of baby wipes, and easy to change outfits. dirt happens everywhere!
i used to bring astro turf and roll it in front of the tent, pop a hammock there, and let the baby play on it, with toys, etc. it kept the worst out of the mouth. then you can even rock in the hammock for nap time with you. maybe a rug, or a large blanket/quilt, depending on the area. Sun screen, but know that also attracts dirt :) A hat is good for sun too.
And relax. its fun, and if you are near water, be very careful. You can actually bring those blow up pools and fill them near the water for play time at the beach. Lots of options.
Have fun!

We took our son camping for the first time when he was 7 months old. He loved it, I brought extra blankets to put down on the outdoor rug that we had outside of the camper and when they got dirty we just pulled out another one. He slept better and ate like a little pig. I sprayed bug spray on my hands to apply to him all over and he was walking with one of those toys they hold onto and walk for support and he kept wanting to go near the fire. Other than that it was a blast.................

Wow, you are one brave person. Personally I cant even go to the mall for more than an hour with my 6 month old. Now camping. Sorry but there is no way in hell I would do it. :) Sorry I dont really have much advice. Take bug repelent, sunblock, lots of baby food and a battery fan. I would really like to know how this turns out. Good luck!!!!

Please, if you are in sleeping bags, just be sure you keep him in a safe spot!! my friends and I went camping, she had a tiny baby and nearly suffocated him in the middle of the night because she rolled over on him in the sleeping bag. everyone heard him trying to scream and luckily we woke her up and everything was okay.
