I'm looking to (possibly) build my own RV; I was thinking of going with a truck camper, but now I'm thinking a travel-trailer. My question: where can you find that lower component of a trailer? Any idea on cost?

Any other tangentially-related info is also welcome.

With regard to size-- I haven't finalized the size yet, but I'm thinking a 4' x 8' chassis will be adequete. I'd like to do a teardrop-shaped design to maximize fuel economy, though I also want a good amount of interior space, so I'll be playing around with differant designs for a while.

Sorry, first question is what size RV are you trying to build? Utility trailer frames are for sale at home centers or "Harbor Freight" with axles, and wheels and tires, and lights, and hitch. When I needed a utility box trailer I bought one from a company selling commertial lawn equipment trailers. ($700 for 8'x12' twin axle flat trailer and I built a big box on top.) Price is highly dependent upon weight carrying ability! My son wants to build up a larger flat platform trailer so he bought a 24 ft RV frame from a RV that a neighbor dissasembled for aluminum scrap. The skin and window frames are aluminum. A lot of older RV's are available for under $2000 which need renovating, you might consider that , look in want-adds in papers and ask at RV storage yards for a BARGAN ! I bought a running Motor Home for $1400 just a few years ago.
