there is a difference between an oar and a paddle. A paddle, you hold with both hands and is not connected to the boat. An oar has a fulcrum point where its connected to the boat by an oarlock. There are usually two oars. A rowboat uses two. There is an exception to the rule and its called a sculling oar, which is in the back of the boat, like a gondola.

A resource for oars and paddles would be west marine. You can go to their webpage www.westmarine.com

If you need a wooden paddle for a canoe, try an outdoors site like www.REI.com

If you're looking for an oar for a rowboat, its important to get the right size. I went through three pairs for my dink before I got some that were correct and didnt feel awkward. You want them long so that they will reach the water in a chop.

Good Luck!

I think you mean an Oar. It depends, where do you live? Is there an outdoor store near you? Look for an REI, Hudson Trails, Cabelas, or Bass Pro Shops near you. Try to go somewhere where you can ask for help, because the type of oar/paddle depends on the boat you are using. Canoes and kayaks use paddles; row boats use oars.
