We could be twins.... :)
Same exact story for me, except my hubby isn't tall - he just likes his sleep! I was sad for the first baby, but not bothered with the second, because he was home with the first. I've had friends who were just horrified that my hubby wasn't spending the nights with me in the pull out chair... well, who could blame him? My 2 year old was recently in the hospital and I spent two nights on one of those things.... NOT comfortable.

Everyone I know who've had babies just had that great chair to sleep on. That's the only accomodations you get in the hospital, no matter what you're there for. As far as will he be staying, he will. I've already told him he better not even try to go out of my sight once I go into labor until we are back home with the baby. Of course I'm weird, I don't do good in hospitals at all & have panic attacks (not a good thing for someone who is pregnant, huh?), so I'm dreading the thought of even being there. Being alone just makes my fears worse.

when i had my first child the father stayed at the hospital with me on the first night... he was provided with a large extremely long day bed taht was for guests and pulled out however due to the way my pregnancy went I was asked to stay 3 nights by the third night he was a bit sore from sleeping on the day bed and I was beginning to feel pretty good so he slept with me in the hospital bed... it really helped having him there as my daughter was very fussy for the first 2 nights... I only slept for about 2 hrs and so it was nice to have him there to take over and take care of her for a little while... and let me get some much needed rest...

My husband stayed the whole time. I was in the hospital for 4 days and three night because I had a c-section. I was so glad that he stayed. The couch he had was not comfortable. Then again he didn't have to give birth or be pregnant for nine months!

with my first i had a double room and they let my hubby sleep in the other bed, we did not have to pay extra.
for the second my husband was not able to stay because he had work and our first child to take care of
with the twins my husband stayed over night in the hospital on a pull out chair, he is 6'1" and fit just fine. he stayed every night, i was there 5 nights.
i am not sure what will happen this time!

My husband has always stayed and the hospitals who only offered the pull out chairs, we just asked for a cot and they got one. The best was my third, they had a little love seat type thing, that pulled out to make a sort of comfortable bed, but my husband just layed beside me in my bed and slept. This is my first C-section and it is twins, so he isn't leaving my side...he has no choice. LOL

My husband will be staying in the hospital with me. we are having our first this summer. I think it is a great bonding time for the 3 of us. I also think that it is really only an option for your first baby, he would probably have to take care of the other kids. My brother in law is 6'7 and stayed with my sister when she had her baby. He was given a fold out mat to sleep on. It wasnt the most confortable but it was their family time. she had to stay in the hospital for 5 days. It is worth it I think if you can make it work.

My husband is pretty tall also. I was hospitalized for kidney problems at 24 weeks. He would not leave even though I begged him to go home and sleep. I had a private room but it only had the wierd fold out chair that he could sleep on. The hospital provided him with pillows and blankets and towels to shower. I am delivering in the same hospital and since it is military they are fairly gracious with my husband, probably since he is the one who is in. I thnk they actually asked him more times if he was comfortable than they asked me! He had surgery at a different military hospital and they pretty much made me fend for myself and I did not even get a fold out chair or blanket to sleep in and he had a private room! They also acted like I was his nurse and kept telling me to help him to the bathroom and only came in to check on him to get vitals. So, I think it depends on the hospital.

At the hospital where I delivered there was a private room for the family. The spouse/partner had a twin size bed and there was a crib in the room with them. It looked just like a regular bedroom.

1] find out ahead of time what the hospital has for dads to stay over - chair, cot, daybed.
2] I have never worked anywhere that husbands could pay for their own bed! Most private rooms only have one bed; and most hospitals don't let non-patients use empty beds because housekeeping refuses to wash beds of non-patients, and the nurses don't have time to..
3] tell him to pack a toothbrush and a change of clothes, and something decent to sleep in - I have found 'guests' in underwear in the hall, and naked walking around mom's room!
4] tell your husb ahead of time how much you do or don't want him to stay.
