I am 18 years old and am thinking about getting a breast reduction. I am an average build with the eception of my breast size. I am a 34DD. (Please, no rude comments.) I've been big busted since childhood and am considering what life would be like with a little less to worry about up top.
I was wondering if it was safe to get a breast reduction at 18 or if my growth pieriod is not done yet. Also, am I too small for something as drastic as surgery? I am thinking of dropping to a C cup. What are the risk factors of the surgery and how horrible is the scarring?
Can people notice when you've had a reduction, or is that only with an increase of size that it is noticable.
What is your personal opinion of the surgery?

Can you breast feed after dropping two cup sizes? (It's my understanding that they sometimes move the nipple)

No matter what size you are, if you have back issues due to your breasts you are a good candidate for a breast reduction. The only issue is insurance companies usually have a minimum amount that needs to be taken out in order to be covered by the insurance company.
I've had a breast reduction Feb 2006 and the only regret is not getting it done sooner.
You CAN breastfeed after reduction, it all depends on what they do. Talk to the PS about your concerns regarding breastfeeding after reduction and check out this site: http://www.bfar.org
Also this site is a wealth of information and FAQ's and support:

Nobody can really tell you've had a reduction unless they've seen you before and after the surgery. Some might not even think you had a reduction they may think you just lost weight or something.
My scarring is sooo minimal.you can barely tell I had any incisions there. Its all in how you take care of your incisions. I used Mederma, ScarGuard and massaged my scars.
Depending on what type of incisions you get, your nipples may not be removed (removing the nipples is called a Free NIpple Graft, and I did not have that).
Working out may NOT help you lose any in the breasts. That's what happened to me, I didn't lose anything up there. I also know some that have gained a cup size.

When I was in the Navy, one of my troops showed me a picture of her taken a few years before. She stood 5', and looked like Dolly Parton. She had breast reduction surgery. She was having back pains, shoulder pains. She lifted her shirt and bottom of her bra and you could barely see a light pink scar under her breast. (Yes, we were that close as friends...long story.) She is a beautiful gal and since the surgery, she was a much happier one, too. Talk to a surgeon about a breast reduction. Like Dawn, I think you'll be much happier. One day we had a party at the home of one of my other troops, and I noticed Dawn and a large breasted neighbor in the corner talking. That summer, Tina (the neighbor) was over in her bathing suit and something just didn't look right. She soon said, "I have to take this thing off. My stitches are itching like crazy." Then it dawned on me (pardon the pun) that she, too, had breast reduction. Those little puppies were standing proud. Good luck!

Geez...when i was your age i was already a 32DDD. I have always wanted a reduction. After 3 kids i REALLY need one LOL. So ive done alot of research on it. Definaly wait untill you are done growing ...i still grew after age 18. When i get mine done someday C is where im shooting for..They do a good job on the scars and most you cant see *they will be underneith*. There is a particular kind of reduction called the laser bra where the nipple stays attached at all times. (other surgeries they are moved and one of the risks is nipple loss) This is important if you want to breastfeed later. You also need to tell the surgeon if you want to breast feed later so that he can leave the milk ducts in tact and remove rather the other fat and tissues that make you large.
Big breasts really really start to be a dragg...they sag quicker, bras are hard to find, and they are heavy...your upper back will start to feel it.
Get it done...later.... Get a good board certified surgeon and ask to see his pictures. People will prolby just notice that you look smaller but otherwise you will look normal.

The only breast reduction I have personally experienced is when I kicked my ex- to the curb. ;)
I was good friends with two women who had it done. They were much older than you and were experiencing tremendous back pain. If you don't already, you probbaly will. Both women highly recommended the procedure.
Yes, the nipple is moved so that it remains "centered". Some feeling there is lost due to nerve endings being severed in the process. Whether breast feeding is possible after such a procedure, I'm afraid I don't know. If it's not, you'll have to weigh that possible inability against the (future) back pain. Another possibility is if the reduction isn't so drastic, maybe the nipple can be left in place.
Good luck, dear.

You are a bit young for this type of surgery, but if it is an impediment to your lifestyle, then drastic measures might be in order. How is your weight? If you are even slightly overweight, your breast size will decrease if you lose some weight. While you think about making this decision, remember that there are "minimizer" bras that will make your breasts look smaller so that your clothes fit better. After the surgery, your breasts would definitely look smaller immediately. Bear in mind that this surgery does leave some scarring. You can also expect some initial discomfort. Go for a consultation with a reputable cosmetic surgeon and make sure that he/she is board certified. Be prepared with all the questions you asked here.

A breast reduction can be done at your age, and it is pretty safe. They will move your nipple, but you will be able to breast feed any future babies. I had a cousin who had it done and she's fine. It will be noticed because of the size your going from to the size your going to.

You should see your doctor and do a consultation. You can always give it some time and talk about it with your family. I imagine theres lots of websites you can find devoted to that stuff. Make sure you use a good doctor. You wouldn't want any mistakes. My mother had it, according to her, she has scars. I hear they tattoo nipples on. Also, do you want to breast feed if you have children? If you tell your doctor your back hurts every time you go in, it will be covered. Swear!

You're probably old enough to have it done. If you're having back pain or finding it uncomfortable to exercise then I would do it.
