A single person can try but the ideomotor effect doesn't usually kick in unless you can consciously assign the subconscious or involuntary motion to another party, even if you are the one moving the planchette.
Ouija boards can be fun, but please don't put too much stock in what the woo-woo weirdos on Y!A have to say about it.

In short, yes, it is possible, but check every occult or mythology site, and they will tell you that it is not safe to do. Too many people see this as a toy which works with the answers in your unlocked subconscious mind, and that even though you are convinced you aren't moving the planchet, you really are. Perhaps this is true for some of the time, but certainly not the rule.
These boards are portals to communicate not just with the loved ones who have passed on, but it also opens up a doorway for darker energy to come through, be it a spiritual beastie to a full blown demonic type of presence.
If you really want to communicate with the dead, or with spirits of another plane, I recommend trying another method that involves less risk, such as tarot cards or asking for a dream meeting. If you insist on using a Ouija board, please do not do it alone, and if you do, only ask beings of the light to come through. Imagine yourself surrounded by light and speak aloud that only beings of the light can contact you.
Unless you are of a dark heart and actually like nasty and shaded energy, in that case, to each their own.

Yes you can, if you want to be touched by evil spirits.
Ouija board doesn't communicate with dead ones, but will call up the spirits of the ancient watchers, demon's spirit and etc.

yes but I would say your asking for trouble. Dont use one. Lots of bad things come through on these things. Sometimes things you dont want and can't get rid of

Yep. It just becomes a matter of you doing it by yourself instead of with a group but the principle is still the same.

using it by your self is very dangrous i would not recommend it. if you are trying to find something you can do by your self try free assoseaction writing.
