Actually the spectrum from neon contains several separate bands (wavelengths) of visible light such as red, orange, yellow, green and blue. It looks like someone took a normal rainbow and cut the colors into separate stripes of each color. When combined all of these wavelengths give an orange color.

My classes normally observe two stripes of each color of the rainbow from the neon light we use in spectroscopy activities.

Neon signs emit specific wavelengths, or colors of light. The sign will emit more than one wavelength but only a select few.
