my mother is being fined by her home owners association because she put up an american flag without permission (yeah i know). her by laws state you need not ask permission if you display the american flag correctly. i think she has, but i need to find it in writing somewhere. a lot of sites give you info on proper display and flag etiqu. but do not specifically discuss displaying from flagpoles. thanks for the help.

as far as im aware there is protection in place for displays of patriotism, and shouldent be stopped from displaying flags

however the installation of a in ground permanent flagpole would require permission from either the homeowner or from the town or city council as to where is a good location for it and it doesnt exceed the height limit or upset the neighbours (blocking views etc)

you cannot otherwise be stopped from displaying the americand flag ie from a angled flagpole attached to the house or in the window or inside the house.

ask your state government for a copy of the rules and regulations. whoever she got the fine from should be able to send you information. all i know for sure is that no other flag can hang higher than the american flag. they can be equal, but the american flag itself has to be higher up the flagpole than any other flag.
