Do you have any children? Own a home in both your names? I am also going through a divorce and now live in Illinois. I was told by my attorney that as long as you do not have children or own a home you can go straight to circuit clerks office in the county you live in a file for divorce there. I think he said it was like $121 if I did it that way. I would call your county clerks office and see what they say!

Hmm...if the divorce has been initiated in the courts you should be able to find a website for your county family court which indicates an open case, the status, and the attorney's name. If you didn't file jointly for divorce then you would have been served or had to sign paperwork acknowledging the filing. Unfortunately, your best course of action may be to hire your own lawyer. Remember, a lawyer represents the interests of his client- and right now his only client is your ex. Not you.

You could quite possibly file for the divorce yourself if you could get a sample divorce document for the state you live in. But your husband has to be agreeable to everything you file for that to work, same thing if you get an attorney and file the quick and easy divorce. If he contests anything, you have to go back and redo it in most cases.

I would check the georgia website, if you have kids..NO
but if not, you should be able to file in georgia..get a return receipt, and register all proceddings you send him, do it the easy way giving each of you the property that you currently hold on to, the bills you currently have on your own, and ask for no money, he should send back a agreement, then he would not have to attend..and it should be quick and easy
