if your doctor knew that you were pregnant, of course they did what they needed to do to prevent any harm to your little one...that is what the blue cover was for...to keep the rays away from your precious little package!

I went to the Dentist and had an X-ray and a tooth pulled when I was pregnant and that was 31 years ago and my baby was just fine. Actually they are more concerned about the medication they give you to pull a tooth than they are in harming the baby. They can protect the baby with the apron ut the medication goes all through your system. It also depends on how far along you are. They don't like to do anything in your first 3 months and mine had to be done in the first 3 months but the dentist was aware that I was pregnant and took precautions. You and you baby will be fine. The X-ray didn't hurt a thing.

The following website has questions answered by qualified medical personnel who are experts in radiation and it's effects. Here is what I found:
"The risks to the baby are minimal, if any, when x rays are taken of areas other than the abdomen. This is because the x-ray beam is focused only on the area of interest to minimize doses to other areas of the body. When you receive a diagnostic x-ray study of your head, teeth, chest, arms, or legs at a qualified facility, the exposure of the x rays is not to your baby. The "scatter" that might reach the baby would be extremely small and would not represent an increased risk for birth defects or miscarriage. In this case, because they covered you with a lead apron, it is unlikely that any scatter would reach the baby."

So, you can relax, and enjoy your pregnancy!

Relax !the big blue thing is a lead apron which protects you from radiation exposure.your baby will be fine. there is such minimal radiation scatter from a few arm x-rays.Now if you had like 5000 of those x-rays and no lead apron, that would be cause for concern.he will be fine ! Don't listen to Krissy. You cannot do an ultrasound to check for a fracture of a bone, it works on tissue. Trust me, I have x-rayed hundreds of people, pregnant women included. We ask about pregnancy for the lead apron useage. Up until fairly recently,( the 80's) doctors used x-rays instead of sonograms.

Wow, that was pretty reckless on the doctors part! If something does happen to your baby .. you need to contact a medical-malpractice attorney!!
I know that when you are pregnant, you are NOT to get an Xray .. you just have to brace the injured body part until after the baby is born.
Very careless on your doctors part!!
You can't even get your tooth x-rayed when you are pregnant!!
good luck! God bless!

OMG YES IT CAN! Did he know that you are pregnant? You should always inform doctors dentals and any others that you are pregnant.
He should have dont an ultrasound on your arm instead.
The radiation would harm your baby from that X-Ray. Go see a mid-wife and get more information.
Hope Everything Is Fine. Good Luck!

That's what the blue thing is for. It is a lead apron that minimizes x-ray exposure. Your baby will be fine.

Please listen to Lori not Krissy, Marks or sadrain. As a perinatal RN who works with midwives and doctors, I can assure you that your baby was not harmed by the Xray. Hope your arm is recovering!

You're fine. Don't worry. It's your arm, not your midsection, and they can narrow in on the one area. With the blue shield, you're even more protected. They know what they're doing...trust them. The baby will be fine.
Congratulations on the impending birth. May he/she grow up healthy and wise.

um, i think that you should consult another doctor about this besides the one that gave you the x-ray because i didn't know they did x-rays on pregnant women. try not to stress but get an answer from a professional fast. if it makes you feel better, my mother worked in a hospital and worked with radiation and x-rays in the first few weeks she was pregnant with me (she didn't know) and i turned out healthy and fine. but, please consult another doctor and get a professional answer.
