I got my husband a baby bjorn baby carrier, and as soon as our daughter hit 8lbs, he was able to carry her around snuggled close on his chest, I have personally owned many types of snuggli's but this baby carrier beats all the rest. It also looks more manly and has extra long straps, so he could carry her when we went out shopping, etc.
Because of a special design that holds the baby's head close to your chest she would be calmed by the sound of his heartbeat, and that made him feel like the best dad on earth. Sometimes, he would even wear it around the house or outside, just for extra cuddle time (I was nursing, so I had the monopoly)
This may not seem like a real "special" gift, but when my husband received one it ended up being just that...

P.S. If you are interested, I bought mine for a big discount on ebay.

Congratulations, and good luck!

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about the baby and pregnancy. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

You could get him a baby survival kit LOL My husband suggested a pair of earplugs and a six pack of beer.

But seriously, if you don't already have a good digital camera or camcorder, and you afford something like that, I bet he would love it and will be using it a lot throughout the pregnancy and birth.

There's a cute little book I bought my husband called "What Daddies Do" with pictures of animal dads and their children doing things together.

I am getting my soon to be father a baby sling from baby k'tan ( a cross between a sling and a baby bjorn) that is personalized with his favorite football team. That way he can carry our kid and be manly about it:)

Don't get him anything, unless he got you something for Mother's Day!
If he did, then browse the mall, I'm sure you'll find something CUTE!
