"Modulating headlights".
They are all the rage nowadays.
The purpose is to alert other drivers of the motorcycles presence. Apparently it works.
I still don't approve of flashing headlights on other than emergency vehicles.(personal opinion). I'm a regular vehicle, and should not need "warning" lights.

RE:
Why do some motorcycle headlights blink/flash as they ride down the road?
When drving my car around the rural roads where I live, I frequently see a motorcycle coming towards me with a blinking headlamp. I've even seen a motorcycle with 3 separate headlamps and the central lamp is flickering away while the others are on steady. Is this a result of too little...

firecracker is on the beam. modulating headlights were released as an add-on kit in the past couple of years. they'd be well worth the money; anything to make a cage see us better would be worth it. i can spot a bike twice the range with a modulating light vs a bike with high beams. especially when he's coming out of the sun. u have no idea how vunerable u are with the sun to ur back.......u are completely invisible until u are at point blank range where even moving 1 foot will cause u to go down.

Modulator on the headlight. i bought my husband one after i realize just how far away bikes can be seen with them. It's at least double how far away bike can be seen coming by drivers. Espcially in the sun or when it is hot enough to have those pesky "road mirages." For his Street Bob, it was about 100 bucks.

firecracker is right. it's call modulating lights. they supposedly have saved MANY lives. Read the stories online. Static lights blend into back ground. Modulating lights (legal because the flash at a slow rate) get people's attention. Especially when they turn left in front of you.

I`ve wondered this myself and my conclusion is that it is to get other drivers attention and notice them...apparently it works if that`s it.

It's the normal bouncing of the fork. The other lights are aimed differently by law.and you won't see the same effect from them.
