The prenatal vitamin is supposed to have the recommended amount of folic acid in it. I didn't have to take it separately.

my first three months i could not keep my prenatals down so my dr told me to take a folic acid tablet a day...that at 3 months that is really the most important supplement...once i hit three months and my stomach had settled i was able to keep 1/2 of my vitamin down and that is all i take to this day (29 weeks)....as long as you are eating a healthy diet you will be okay....remember, the baby gets what it needs...you are the one who will suffer :)

No, not unless your doctor has reason to believe that you would need it. Routine tests that they do each visit would show whether or not you needed it, otherwise no.
