Pro -- creates a tax base, gets rid of the war on drugs. Makes drugs cheap for druggies which reduces crime. Puts drug smugglers and dealers out of business. Less murder and screws up gangs.

Con -- helps reckless, self-destructive people spiral into a world of intoxication and death. On the other hand, you have that anyway. People who love drugs will keep doing them, legal or not, whether their lives are in danger; or even if they present a clear and present danger to others.

Pro outweighs the con. Druggies will do drugs no matter what.

Pros...Can be taxed. I also believe people tend to try drugs in the first place because they are illegal and there is some thrill associated with that. Money that is saved from the "drug war" could be put to other use. There are some medicinal benefits associated with Marijuana and those would would benefit would be able to use it freely, not just in certain states as it is now.

Cons...Legalizing drugs would also mean that harsher drugs such as heroin and cocaine would also be legal, this in turn may create more addicts. Drugs would be difficult to tax and regulate.

Although I do not believe that all drugs should be legalized I do believe that Marijuana should be. I do not believe it is any worse than cigarettes or alcohol which are obviously legal.

absolutely not... even if you wanted to argue to just legalize the less intoxicating drugs.. what do you think that will lead too? Does anyone start right off the bat using heroin, or meth or cocaine? No, they start with weed... think "oh, that wasn't bad" and they move on to the next thing. Alcohol is a problem.. The same thing happens... you start with beer or wine coolers and then it escalates. I am not saying to get rid of alcohol today... I am saying drugs is 2 - 3 times worse... Look at how many people are killed each year involving alcohol... look at how much violence is attributed to alcohol... where is the outcry on this? More people die in the US from alcohol in one year than soldiers lost in the war on terror... again... make that number 2 - 3 times with legalized drugs.

There's a legal drug here, it's called alcohol. I don't feel all drugs should be legalized, but yes, some. The damages won't be better/worse than those with alcohol, and on top of that the crime rate would go down.

depends on what drug. heroin and cocaine? NO never. pot? yes. pros are...govt can actually make money taxing pot like tobacco, the "war on drugs" can focus on the dangerous stuff rather then wasting time and money. cons are...well i can't think of any, pot should be treated like alcohol, same laws. the tax's collected could actually fund the drive to get rid of heroin and coke and the other really harmful drugs

we all know that people do drugs and that some will do anything to get them. but i think that the fact that they are illigal help some ex addicts not try and get them anymore. and they shouldnt be legalized becasue if they were then they would be easier to get and more people would be getting sick and die from them. and to tell you the truth in my opinion there are no pros to making drugs legalized.

Yes. Same reason Prohibition was repealed: criminalization isn't working. All it's doing is filling up our prisons an enriching organized crime.
