i used to some, but then i realized that it was just making it harder for me to move on and that there was really know reason to. he wasn't going to judge me and there's probably not much that he hasn't heard before.

so, don't do it. you'll just be wasting your time and money.

It depends on the objective. I lied a lot when I was interviewed for a job by a shrink. I had to make up this story about my woderful family, full of love and support which is not true at all. I lied because I thoght she would not recommend me for the job I was applying if I would tell her the truth about my indifferent family. I just sensed that she would include the sentence "coming from a dysfunctional family" in her evaluation. I think it worked because I got the job. There is not any point in telling lies to your shrink in the rest of the occasions. Most of the time, I feel that they studied only to become "`professional listeners"... although I am pretty sure that they do not care much about my situation... anyway, I enjoy talking to them because their job is to listen to me... I don't think I have received wonderful advises but two good ears. It is not about telling lies in the first appointment... it is about concealing your true feelings.. .that is what I do... I omit details... but after three or four sessions, I can be myself... I think

You'd have to be crazy to lie to your shrink! (-:

Just kidding. If you are lying, then that's a sign that you are discussing a really sensitive area that you aren't really wanting to deal with. Can you tell your shrink you are lying? Maybe you could just say, "I'm not ready to discuss that." instead of lying.

Telling lies to the doc is a waste of money, though. If you are doing it, you should talk about the lying.

I don't have one anymore, but when I did, no. Why would I want to lie to them. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of seeing a therapist? The whole point is to have them help you through things with an unbiased opinion. Lying to them would not help but rather hinder the help.

Pay BIG money to lie to someone who's trying to help? Who ever does that DEFINITELY needs a shrink....
